Don’t risk not knowing Why Developers should Build a Career in Web3?

Learning Web3 is a crucial skill for developers, given Web3’s ambition toward a genuinely decentralised internet. Web 3.0 has the potential to get populated with developers who have original ideas for high-quality products. Developers in the Web3 space create apps that aren’t limited to a single cloud server but are distributed on a blockchain network not controlled by a central authority such as a bank or the government.

If you are a web or JavaScript developer and Web3 has sparked your interest in a decentralised future, learning how to build on Web3 will be essential to growing in this field.

Read this blog as we dwell on what Web3 is and why it will be worth developing a career in it.

What is Web3?

To understand what web3.0 (or Web3) is, a person first must have the basic knowledge and understanding of Web1.0 and Web2.0. So let us first take a sneak peek into the history of the internet.

  • Web1: The first generation of the internet from 1991-to 2004 is known as Web1. The interface of the internet back then was different from what it is today. Web1 was more like a newspaper, a static page that contained text. There was no interaction between users; it was just a one-way tool with us being the consumers.
  • Web2: The web evolved drastically from 2004 onwards. The interactivity of the internet was one of the most significant changes after Web1. Users started generating content for websites, and one of the biggest problems we are facing on the internet today cropped up lack of privacy.  Companies today can read users’ data, target ads accordingly, and sell products based on them, and all this is possible because of blockchain.
  • Web3: Web3.0 is the next evolution of the internet. It uses blockchain technology and decentralisation tools. Decentralised storage means there is no central authority that controls the entire data.

How is information stored on Web3?

Information on Web3 is stored in the form of blocks in a blockchain which consists of 3 main things:

Data: information stored in a block

Hash: a unique fingerprint of the block

Hash of the previous block: every block has the hash of its last block

Web3 is often termed the internet that the users own as people are rooting for removing platform intermediaries.

Why Should One Develop a Career in Web3?

Web3 will be a giant leap toward internet communications and networking. Hence, more and more techies are looking to upskill themselves in all things Web3 and the metaverse.

What are the ideologies that Web3 follows?

Social platforms do not provide complete freedom of speech and expression. This surprises many people, but only a handful of people control what stays and does not stay on their platforms. For example, Twitter suspended the account of an ex-president of the United States. A few people with authority always decide what is right and make decisions on their perceptions. It is not suitable for any platform to have that authority over people, which is what Web3 is trying to achieve.

You do not own the content you create and share on social platforms. For example, YouTube decides the kind of ads that come on a video or the rates for ads that come up on a video. The platform also has the right to determine the revenue split between the creator and the platform. However, Web3 will change the game for all content creators, allowing users to own their data and content through NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).

Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs):
The rules and regulations on the platform will be pre-decided. Often, the guidelines and rules on today’s platforms are unclear and can be subjective. The rules in DAOs are established through a smart contract, so there is no individual making decisions but an algorithm. People define many Web3 communities as DAOs as these communities have different levels of decentralisation.

Some people call Web3 a revolution, while others term it a scam. But what is sure is that Web3 has its fair share of technical challenges. For example, one of the main issues raised is that increased privacy can pave the way for more cybercrime. However, this is debatable because blockchain is not perfectly secure too, and it may be too early to shift entirely to it.

Nevertheless, developers are eager to get their minds to work on this new phenomenon to create something that is a breakthrough with Web3. We have to wait and watch if web3 is here to stay.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What are NFTs?

  3. What is a blockchain wallet?
It is a digital wallet that allows users to store, manage, and trade their cryptocurrencies.
  4. What does web decentralization mean?
