As per NITI Aayog research titled ‘India’s Booming Gig and Platform Economy’, 2020-21, India is home to 7.7 million gig workers. By 2029–2030, it is anticipated to grow to 23.5 million, becoming a significant portion of the Indian workforce. Even though there are a high number of gig employees, upskilling of gig workers remains a concern. The cultivation of 21st-century skills, including communication, digital skills, technological competence, innovation, and logical reasoning, will become essential with the upskilling of gig workers.
